Recovery is Possible: How GOCAT Funding is Expanding Access to Recovery Support in Georgia

SMART Recovery program details including meeting times, location, and contact information for recovery support in Georgia.

A New Path Forward for Individuals and Families Affected by Opioid Use Disorder

At Newport Integrated Behavioral Healthcare (NIBH), we believe that recovery is possible for everyone. Through funding provided by the Georgia Opioid Crisis Abatement Trust (GOCAT), we are expanding access to lifesaving treatment, recovery support services, and community-based resources for individuals and families impacted by opioid use disorder (OUD).

The opioid epidemic has affected communities across Georgia, leaving many individuals struggling with addiction, overdose, mental health challenges, housing instability, unemployment, and family disruption. While the challenges can feel overwhelming, recovery is achievable when individuals have access to compassionate, evidence-based care and ongoing support.

What is the Georgia Opioid Crisis Abatement Trust?

The Georgia Opioid Crisis Abatement Trust was established to address the devastating impact of the opioid epidemic throughout the state. The Trust invests in programs that expand prevention, treatment, recovery support, and harm reduction services for individuals affected by opioid use disorder.

Through this funding, NIBH is able to provide enhanced services designed to remove barriers to treatment and support long-term recovery outcomes.

Comprehensive Recovery Support Services

Recovery involves much more than simply stopping substance use. Successful recovery often requires addressing medical, emotional, social, vocational, and family needs.

Through GOCAT funding, NIBH offers a continuum of recovery-focused services, including:

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Medication-Assisted Treatment combines FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral therapies to help individuals manage cravings, reduce withdrawal symptoms, and support long-term recovery.

Research consistently demonstrates that MAT improves treatment retention, reduces overdose risk, and increases recovery success.

Residential Detoxification Services

For individuals requiring a medically supervised withdrawal process, NIBH provides residential detoxification services designed to ensure safety, comfort, and stabilization as individuals begin their recovery journey.

Individual and Group Counseling

Licensed clinicians provide evidence-based counseling services that help individuals:

  • Develop healthy coping skills
  • Address underlying trauma
  • Manage stress and emotional challenges
  • Build relapse prevention strategies
  • Strengthen motivation for recovery

Peer Recovery Support

Peer Support Specialists offer encouragement and guidance from the perspective of lived experience. Peer support helps individuals navigate challenges, connect with community resources, and maintain hope throughout the recovery process.

Family Support Services

Addiction affects entire families. Recovery support includes education, family engagement, and resources that help loved ones understand addiction, rebuild trust, and strengthen healthy relationships.

Transportation Assistance

Transportation barriers often prevent individuals from accessing treatment. Through GOCAT-funded services, eligible participants may receive transportation assistance to treatment, medical appointments, and recovery-related services.

Harm Reduction Services

NIBH promotes safety and overdose prevention through education, community outreach, and harm reduction strategies designed to reduce the risk of overdose and support engagement in treatment.
